Feels like something should be happening…

Don’t know what, but definitely something.  that’s what I’m hoping for.

I think it’s been about 3 weeks since I heard from Manager Guy.  Sometime in the near future I’ll contact him to say I’m coming to LA and would like to have a face-to-face meeting.  I hope it yields positive results.

My schedule at work is slowly getting back to normal, so I actually got to get some work done today.  I fleshed out the first quarter of Act Two. I like how it’s developing, but still have that nagging feeling in the back of my head about whether it’s “Hollywood” enough.  Have to work on not letting that gnaw at the creative process.

But anyway…

It was very…fulfilling to be working on each scene and, for a lot of them, be able to put it together in such a way I hadn’t considered before.  I wish that happpened more often and earlier in the process. Then again, every writer probably wishes that too.  I’m hoping to get to the halfway point by this weekend.  we’ll see.

when a guy at work found out I wrote screenplays, he said he too had written one. part of one. about 3o pages or so.  Over the past couple of years.  I knew where this was going.  I asked for his 30-second elevator pitch.  It went on for 2 minutes and I still didn’t know what it was about.  Something about a guy killing his family or something.

I told him about the various milestones (page 10 inciting incident, page 17 twist, etc.) and I could tell the words weren’t making much of an impact.  he asked to see my script, which I’ll probably send to him. it will be interesting to see how he reacts.

I got an email notice from the fine folks at ScriptShark for a one-day seminar-thingy in September.  It looked interesting and the price seems right ($139), but that’s also the day we’re planning a big shindig.  I like the idea of going to these things, but more for the networking and pitching aspects, rather than the classes.

I’ll be the first to admit I’m no expert at writing, but I like to think I know what I’m doing.  It just takes a while to reach my objective.

And I’ll keep trying until I do…
