I think I’m getting the hang of this…

I googled this thing a few days ago and lo and behold, there it was!  About 4th down the list, so maybe I’m doing something right.  Yay for me.

Quite a lot of stuff has happened since my last post…

-Still in waiting mode for the script thing.  Perhaps this is the week that the universe finally makes it all right.  Once everything is signed, I will explain all.

-Interesting side note to the above item.  A friend of mine from high school whom I reconnected with through Facebook said she had a friend who is starting out as a screenwriter and asked if I would be willing to talk to her.  I said sure.  She wrote me, I responded.  It’s hard to believe I can now claim the mantle of ‘advice-giver’.  Gosh.

-Watched the Oscars last night – sporadically.  I had other stuff to do, including laundry and helping my daughter with her reading homework.  The amazing part is I’ve only seen a handful of the films mentioned throughout the evening, but not one Best Picture nominee.  Of the 5, Benjamin Button, Slunmdog and The Wrestler are the only ones I’ll put on my Netflix queue.  Yes, like most writers, I dream of being there one day and what I would say if I won.  Don’t ask because I’m still editing it.

-Speaking of my daughter, she’s getting better at skating.  Didja know she wants to be a hockey goalie?  But first she has to learn how to actually skate.  After a few weeks of watching her from off the ice (definite improvement there), the instructor said maybe if I went out there, it would help boost her confidence.  So I went after work during the week.  I didn’t fall, but this was the ‘adults’ skating time, so I was probably the youngest person out there.  It doesn’t really boost one’s pride when a 75-year-old woman glides past you as you struggle to stay upright.  But again – I did not fall.  Two days later, I was out there with her class and did little better.  Again – no falling.  But it did a number on my lower back, so I have to start doing yoga again or some kind of daily stretching routine so as to avoid that from happening again.

-The comic geek in me is quite psyched about WonderCon this weekend.  My ponytailed chum Neil and I have gone for the past few years and it’s always fun.  Exhausting, occasionally expensive, but fun.  I’ve already got some items on my shopping list.  I may even experiment and put photos up here.

Until next time…

My gosh, this is frustrating AND annoying…

I’m still trying to figure out how to work this thing.  You would think there’d be some kind of tutorial or something.  I may have to check out the YouTube one to see what I’m doing wrong.

In other news…

-The attorney I’ve worked with before has since left his practice and stopped practicing law, so my devoted wife helped me find another.  She is looking over the contract a manager/producer sent me and will hopefully respond with an ‘all clear’ so I can sign it and get started on working with him.

-The script I’m currently working on is once again proving to be a real pain.  Even worse, I’m in the section that to me needs the most work, as well as the most comedy.  Difficult stuff.

-It doesn’t help that I’m so tired right now.  Wifey has a potluck at her new employer tomorrow, and yours truly did the baking portion of her contribution.  Lucky for me, V’s soccer practice was cancelled due to rain, enabling me to rest at home before going to pick her up.

-Tonight starts the new semester of our French class.  Hope I can make it through in a conscious state.

-It would be nice to know if somebody besides me will eventually read these.  Have to wait and see, while studying and developing an understanding of the intricacies of this evil entity.

Later…

let’s try that again…

Wow.  The first post really, really sucked.  Probably because it was Sunday evening, I was tired and had to get to bed so I could get up at the crack of 3:20AM for work.

Believe me, I really wanted it to be so incredibly fantastic that you would find yourself checking in at least once a day to get the latest from me.  Didn’t happen.  Too bad.

That being said, I really don’t know what to expect out of this.  I’d like to try and keep it going as long as I can.  Keep in mind that topics most likely to be covered will include movies and screenwriting, comics – both print and web, food, radio stuff and other assorted factoids and tidbits about goings-on in my life.

I’ll start with the dominant topic these days.  In case you didn’t know, I’ve been working on screenwriting for just about 10 years now, with 7 scripts to my name.  Of those, I consider 2 presentable to folks in the industry.  The others…let’s just say they need work and leave it at that.

Of these 2 scripts, the first is a romantic comedy that landed me a manager.  But he did a crappy job and it didn’t lead anywhere.

The second is a fantasy action-adventure which got me THIS >< CLOSE to getting a real live agent.  But she had some personal issues to deal with and dropped out of the picture.  Undaunted, I decided to send out query letters to agents and managers while also working on a new script.  I must have sent out about 200 emails, give or take.  A majority of those remain unanswered.  Several bounced back indicating the recipient wasn’t around anymore.  Several more claimed to not have anything to do with writers (which makes me think the WGA and Hollywood Creative Directory really need to people to get updates).  And about 7 asked to see the script.

Now it is a wait and see situation.  This may seem discouraging, but I’m fairly certain this is a better percentage than I’ve ever gotten before.  And that’s saying something.

I’ll let you know how it goes…

The adventure begins…

It’s taken a while, but here I am once again.  I’m still getting the hang of this thing, so bear with me.  For the time being there will be no flashy add-ons, just content.  Maybe the occasional link to something.

Topics will be varied, but I’ll try to make them interesting.  Or funny.  Or both. Or maybe even poignant.  Who knows?

I’ll try to post something every day.  No guarantees.  Feel free to drop a comment or suggestion or gushing fan mail.  I’ll take what I can get.

That’s all for now. Until next time…
